On account of Catholic values in pursuing universal love and righteousness, the Research Centre for Austronesian Peoples of Providence University has established a R&D platform focusing on studies about Taiwan’s aboriginal tribes and International Austronesian Peoples through the methods of grass roots empowerment programs. By enhancing the concept of Austronesian Peoples, we hope to strengthen the modern multi-cultural identity in Taiwan, which shall become a precious resource of prosperity and spiritual commitments to Taiwanese people.
Besides, we also believe that Taiwanese aborigines belong to the big family of “Austronesian Peoples” rather than just an isolated minority. From this idea of the Austronesian community, they can on one hand appreciate the suffering histories such as forced migration and colonization of their ancestors, while on the other hand bravely confront the waves of globalization nowadays by devoting to tasks like language revivification, culture inheritance, tribe reconstruction, group identity, social development, ethical education, environmental protection and so on. |
